Job Description
The Director, National Accounts (Kaiser and Federal Accounts) serves as Takeda's commercial lead and strategic relationship owner for Kaiser Permanente, with additional responsibility for a select portfolio of nationally significant Medicaid and Federal accounts. The role requires a deep understanding of Kaiser Permanente’s integrated payer-provider model and their policy, pricing, procurement, and reimbursement dynamics. This role also requires a thorough understanding of Medicaid and Federal Accounts such as Tricare and Veteran Affairs (VA).
The Director leads enterprise strategy across Kaiser's integrated payer-provider ecosystem, as well as Tricare and The VA. The Director is responsible for access, contracting, and business performance. The Director owns strategic relationships and develops differentiated account plans that optimize appropriate patient access, formulary and medical policy positioning, reimbursement, and long-term portfolio value.
The Director is the key voice of the customer and translates market and account insights into actionable strategies that inform access, contracting, evidence generation, and launch planning, maintaining the resilience of Takeda’s core brands while establishing next-generation assets as future growth drivers.

Medicaid: Change Healthcare, Gainwell, Prime Medicaid, Molina, and OptumRx Medicaid
Federal: Department of Defense (DoD), Defense Health Agency (DHA), TRICARE, Veterans Affairs (VA), Indian Health Service (IHS), Bureau of Prisons, U.S. Coast Guard, and Public Health Service (PHS)
How you will contribute
Enterprise Strategy & Market Intelligence
Own and execute enterprise account strategies and business plans that advance appropriate access, formulary positioning, and portfolio performance across current and future products. Maintain deep account intelligence on organizational structure, decision-making, benefit design, utilization management, procurement, reimbursement, policy, competitive dynamics, and evolving healthcare delivery models.
Anticipate access barriers, policy shifts, competitive threats, and emerging opportunities; translate insights into concise recommendations for senior leadership and cross-functional partners.
Serve as the internal subject-matter expert and voice of the customer for assigned accounts.
Cultivate and leverage trusted relationships with senior payers and healthcare-system decision-makers, procurement and contracting executives, policy leaders, population-health stakeholders, and government program representatives.
Lead stakeholder engagement across national, regional, and local levels as appropriate, representing Takeda in executive customer meetings, strategic business reviews, and industry forums.
Build durable customer partnerships grounded in credibility, insight, appropriate patient access, and mutual long-term value.
Lead account-specific access, formulary, reimbursement, and contracting strategies in partnership with Pricing & Contracting, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Franchise Leadership, Medical, HEOR, Trade, Patient Services, and other relevant functions.
Lead complex negotiations within approved governance, balancing customer priorities, patient access, competitive dynamics, contract economics, gross-to-net considerations, and long-term portfolio objectives.
Evaluate contracting opportunities and performance using utilization, market share, access, rebate, pricing, and financial data; develop business cases and recommendations for leadership review.
Monitor execution of approved agreements, resolve implementation barriers, and optimize contract value and access outcomes.
Government & Integrated Healthcare Expertise
Strategically navigate Kaiser Permanente’s integrated payer-provider model, including formulary decision-making, medical and pharmacy benefit management, clinical pathways, utilization management, regional variation, and system-level implementation
Maintain working expertise in Federal Supply Schedule considerations, VA/DoD/DHA/TRICARE requirements, 340B implications, and other relevant government healthcare policies.
Navigate Medicaid managed care and fee-for-service environments and the policy, pricing, procurement, contracting, and reimbursement requirements of federal healthcare programs.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Execution
Lead cross-functional and collaborative partners around a unified account strategy.
Mobilize field and internal resources to execute compliant pull-through strategies, address access barriers, and support appropriate utilization.
Partner with Medical Affairs and HEOR to identify customer evidence needs and deploy appropriate clinical, economic, outcomes, and value resources.
Launch & Pipeline Readiness
Bring payer and healthcare-system insights into pipeline planning and new-product commercialization to shape customer-specific launch strategies.
Anticipate evidence requirements, utilization management expectations, reimbursement challenges, contracting needs, and operational barriers prior to launch.
Prepare assigned accounts for future Takeda assets and support timely adoption following approval and access decisions.
Demonstrated experience managing Kaiser Permanente as a strategic national payer account.
8+ years of progressive pharmaceutical, biotechnology, market access, payer account management, government accounts, pricing/contracting, or related commercial experience.
Demonstrated access to and credibility with pharmacy directors, medical directors, and influential decision-makers within major payer, IDN, or government accounts.
Deep understanding of formulary management, utilization management, reimbursement, pricing, rebates, pharmacy and medical benefits, and buy-and-bill dynamics, including ASP, WAC, and 340B considerations.
Proven experience leading complex payer/customer negotiations, strategic account plans, and cross-functional initiatives in a highly matrixed organization.
Strong financial and analytical acumen with the ability to translate account, market, contracts, and utilization data into strategic business decisions.
Travel requirement 20-40%
Strongly Preferred
Direct experience leading the Kaiser Permanente payer relationship and account strategy.
Expertise with federal healthcare accounts, PBMs, integrated payer-provider systems, national Medicaid customers, Medicaid administrators, or managed Medicaid organizations.
Experience launching new products or complex biologics within specialty or highly specialized therapeutic categories.
MBA, MPH, MS, PharmD, or other relevant advanced degrees.
Previous formal or cross-functional leadership experience.

$177,000.00 - $278,080.00
